Selecting the lipstick shade always take most of my makeup time and at last I always end up wearing that LIGHT PINK COLOR SHADE, no matter its winter season or sun is scorching, either I am wearing a dark color outfit or my favorite light color dress; LIGHT PINK COLOUR LIPSTICK was the only shade I had.
However, after spending more than 48 HOURS I have discovered the wide range of lipstick shades and colors. Moreover, I have discovered the SECRET that how to choose the right lipstick shade according to skin color and that goes best with your skin tone, outfit, and of course makes you look prettier in the get-together.
1. Know Your Skin Colour
Determining the color of the skin helps you a lot in choosing the best lip color. For this, first you need to know about different skin colors. There are majorly 4 skin colors; Fair, Medium, Tan and Dark.
To know the skin color, examine your skin color in daylight and focus on the skin color of your jawline. Each shade requires a different lip color that can add value to your overall makeup look.
Lipstick Colours For Fair Skin
Dark lip colors go best with the fair skin types as it makes your face prettier and gives a perfect look. It includes dark red shade, dusty red, maroon, reddish-pink shade, black lip color, magenta, shiny dark pink shade, and blueish pink colors. However, if you have a fair skin color and you want a soft look than use peach and nude lip colors.
Lipstick Colors For Medium Skin Tone
If you have a medium color skin then go for cherry red, brick red, magenta, pink shades, rose, mauve, violet, and grape color shades. Don’t go for the darkest lip colors like maroon or dark red as they may not give you a perfect look. For a softer look, you may go for classic nude color or pink shades.
Lipstick Colors For Dark Skin Tone
Lipstick colors that go well with dark skin color include different shades of red, purple and brown. It includes brick red, magenta, dark pink, caramel, blueish pink shade, deep plums, wine color and red berry color.
Light color lipsticks make your face look dull and will not add a glow.
Lipstick Colors For Tan Skin Color
Tan skin can wear a large range of lip shades except for pure brown and purple shades. If you have a tan skin color then use nude color lipstick, caramel, deep pink, dark red, brick red, and blueish pink shade.
2. Determine The Undertone Of Your Skin
The undertone of your skin can be either warm, cool or neutral. Lucky you are if you have a neutral undertone because in this case, you can wear all the lip shades and colors.
The best way to determine the undertone of skin is to know the color of your wrist veins. They will be either in blue color or green color. Blue color veins on the wrist indicate that you have pink undertone that is cool undertone. If your wrist veins are green color than you have yellow undertone that is warmer undertone.
Now after knowing the undertone of your skin, choose the lipstick color that is perfect according to your skin color and undertone of your skin.
Lipstick Shade For Cool/Pink Undertone: For a fair skin; nude and light mocha color, for a medium skin color; pinkish and cherry shades, for dark skin shade; wine and ruby shades are recommended.
Lipstick Shade For Warm/Yellow Undertone: For fair skin; peach and pinkish shades, for medium and dark skin color; bronze, copper, goldish brown shades are preferable.
Lucky you are if you have both green and blue wrist veins as this is the neutral undertone and can use all the lipstick shades and colors of cheap as well as expensive lipstick brands
3. Know The Shape Of Your Lips
The shape and size of the lips matter a lot while choosing the lip color. In fact, by following these rules you can give a perfect shape to your lips if they are not of the same shape. There are 3 types of lip shapes; upper lip heavy, bottom lip heavy or asymmetrical lips.
If the UPPER LIP is heavy then apply the slightly dark lipstick shade on the upper lips and slight light lip shade of the same color on the lower lip.
If the BOTTOM LIP is heavy then apply the slightly light color or nude color lipstick in the middle of the top lip
For ASYMMETRICSL LIPS, use the lip pencil along with the lipstick and make an outline of the lips. The outline of the lip will balance both the lips and give a perfect lip shape.
On the other hand, if you have THIN LIPS then go for the light color lipsticks and glosses and if you have THICK LIPS then use the dark matte lipstick shades.
4. Know Your Hair Color And Eye Color
While choosing the lipstick shade, consider the color of your eye and hair.
- For a DARK/BLONDE HAIR COLOR with FAIR SKIN, shock and pink lipstick shades go best.
- For DARK HAIR COLOR with DARK SKIN COLOR, bronze, and goldish lip colors gives the best look.
- For a BLONDE HAIR CPOLOR with DARK SKIN SHADE Or RED HAIR COLOR with FAIR SKIN, apply caramel, brown and pink shades.
Similarly, the eye color matters a lot while choosing the right lipstick color.
- For BROWN/BLUE EYES, go for bright lip colors like pink, cheery or red shade.
- For GREEN EYES, use pink and rust shades
- For GREY EYES, go for the plum, violet and other dark purplish shades.
